Chess at a glance

The most commonly held view is that Chess originated from the Indian game chaturanga, about 1400 years ago. Chess is game which tests a player's knowledge, visualization skills and calculation expertise.
Blitz chess
With the usual chess rules Blitz chess is played. The difference is each contestant is allotted just 3 to 15 minutes per side ( five minutes is common) total for each game. When a player completes a move, he stops his watch which starts watch of his competitor, who has to make his next move in few seconds.
Other terms: Rapid chess, Bullet chess (each player has less than 3 minutes only to complete all of their moves).

FIDE is the world organization of chess players. FIDE organizes regular world chess championships. The lifetime titles "International Master" and "Grandmaster" are awarded to Strong players by FIDE according to well-defined rules.
